Gift ideas for techies 2025
Whether you’re shopping for someone who lives and breathes technology (guilty!) or you’re just trying to get a gadget-loving friend or family member something special, here’s a list of gift ideas that will light up their holiday season. This collection includes everything from cool gadgets and accessories to thoughtful acts of service that will be especially appreciated by anyone who loves tech but doesn’t necessarily want (or know how) to deal with the hassle.
These are sorted into broad categories: physical devices, human assistance (such as helping Grandma with email!), and a bonus section. Levels of sophistication vary. (I will be adding more links over the coming days as I find the best prices, especially during the Black Friday sales.)
This post may contain affiliate links. If you buy through one of the links, I might make a small commission at no extra cost to you. (Disclaimer)
HEADS UP: Prices can vary according to color (for example, some brands price the more neutral-colored headphones a few dollars more, but other brands price them lower – go figure).

Noise-canceling headphones
Budget options
- JLab JBuds Lux ANC: Outstanding value with 44+ hours of battery life, effective noise cancellation, and a bass-boosted sound signature. Includes an equalizer for customization.
- Edifier W830NB Wireless Over Ear Headphones: Solid performance with respectable noise cancellation, though the sound is treble-heavy (fixable with the app). Compact design but may not fit larger heads comfortably.
- Anker Soundcore Space One Active Noise Cancelling Headphones: Premium features at a budget price, including solid ANC, LDAC support for high-quality wireless audio, companion app, and nearly 43 hours of battery life with ANC on.
- OneOdio Focus A6 Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling Headphones: Impressive 79 percent noise reduction in lab tests, supports Bluetooth 6.0 and LDAC, includes four ANC modes, and offers 40 hours of battery life with ANC on.
Premium options
- Sony WH-1000XM6: The Best Noise Canceling Wireless Headphones: The new gold standard for noise-canceling headphones. Sony brought back the foldable design (last seen in the XM4), improved battery life to 30 hours with ANC on, and enhanced the already excellent sound quality. Features best-in-class noise cancellation with 7x faster processing, remarkably comfortable wear, and comes with the best carrying case of any headphones on the market.
- Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones: Still exceptional performers with top-tier noise cancellation (reduces loud noises by about 87 percent). Features aptX Lossless support for Android users with compatible devices, Immersive Audio for 3D sound, and comfortable padding that’s glasses-friendly. The Aware mode lets you monitor surroundings without removing the headphones.
- Apple AirPods Pro 3: Features Adaptive Audio mode that provides natural ambient sound monitoring while protecting hearing from loud noises. Works better than Bose’s equivalent mode according to reviewers. Perfect integration with Apple devices.
Headphone accessories
- Cases for headphones, earbuds, cell phones, tablets, and laptop cases. As I mentioned in Gift ideas for young adults (age 18-22) and Ideas for gifts that cost $20-$50, Casely has an array of beautiful designs for phone cases and listening devices. They have BOGO sales at holiday time, plus sometimes percentage-off sales (up to 75 percent off). Check out these covers for AirPods and AirPods Max, then browse the site for phone cases. (This item could fit several categories below, but I decided to list it higher because I’m so impressed with the designs, not to mention the stellar customer service.)
Portable power banks
Best overall options
- Anker Nano Power Bank (30W, 10K): Features built-in USB-C cable with an ingenious hook design that creates a loop for easy one-handed phone use while charging. Supports 30W fast charging (50 percent in 30 minutes), has an LED screen showing exact battery percentage, and incredibly portable size.
- Anker MagGo Power Bank (10K, Ultra Slim): Top pick for magnetic/MagSafe charging with excellent performance and premium, portable design. Qi2-certified for 15W wireless charging. NOTE: MagSafe power banks work perfectly with iPhones, but Android users can use them as long as the phone supports Qi2 or a MagSafe-compatible magnetic case.
High-capacity options
- Anker PowerCore 26800 Portable Charger: A serious high-capacity battery pack for the gadget lover who never stops plugging in or traveling. With 26,800 mAh internal battery and three USB output ports, this “power station in your bag” can fully charge a smartphone many times over, and even keep a tablet, phone, and wearable topped up at once. Great for long flights, road trips, or anything that keeps gadgets draining all day. It’s small enough to toss into a backpack.
- ELECOM Nestout 15,000mAh Outdoor Battery: Versatile and rugged build with useful features for outdoor use.
Specialized options
- Anker Prime Power Bank (9.6K, 65W): Dual-purpose device that works as both a wall charger and portable battery. Features 65W output for laptops, on-board screen showing percentage and wattage, and ActiveShield 3.0 thermal monitoring.
- Nitecore NB 10000 Gen 3: Lightweight at just 5.3 ounces with exceptional efficiency. Perfect for backpacking and outdoor adventures.
Wireless charging pad
- Nomad Base Station | Walnut Hub Edition: Wireless charging pad that can charge multiple devices simultaneously (comes with global adapters). Has a sleek, minimalist design in a walnut finish.
Smart fitness trackers
Budget options
- Fitbit Inspire 3: Basic but effective with stress management, workout intensity tracking, sleep tracking, and 24/7 heart rate monitoring. Great entry-level option.
- Samsung Galaxy Fit 3: Features 1.6-inch AMOLED display, 14 days battery life, 100+ exercise modes and 100+ watch faces.
Midrange options
- Fitbit Charge 6: Real-time heart rate display when connected to compatible exercise equipment, 40+ exercise modes including swimming (water-resistant), built-in GPS, continuous heart rate monitoring, sleep monitor, and contactless payment capability. Includes six-month Fitbit Premium membership.
- Fitbit Versa 4: Combines fitness tracking with smartwatch features including built-in GPS, workout intensity mapping, 24/7 heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, and ability to answer calls and texts and receive app notifications. Six days battery life.
Premium options
- Garmin Venu X1 GPS Smartwatch: Top-rated with excellent running insights, route creation mechanics, Training Readiness recovery tools, built-in LED flashlight, and full-color maps. The watch is water resistant and offers a full week of battery life without always-on display. Slim design with comfortable nylon strap. Compatible with Android and Apple iOS operating systems.
- Apple Watch Series 11: Advanced health features including hypertension notifications for chronic high blood pressure, ECG capability, heart rate alerts, and 24-hour battery life. This model also brings back the blood-oxygen monitoring that Apple had removed from previous models. It includes three months of Apple Fitness+ with AI-powered Workout Buddy. That first link is to the watch with a 46mm case, but it also comes with a 42mm case. (I personally prefer the larger size, but if you’re buying for a kid and not someone 40+, go for the smaller version.) You can get the watch with or without cellular capability (if you opt to go with, you’ll need to pay for a plan at your cellular provider; I pay $10 a month for my watch’s cellular plan). This link is for the watch with GPS + Cellular 46mm. I’ve had my Apple Watch Series 5 for six years, and it’s still holding up well physically, although it doesn’t have several of the features the Series 11 version comes with. If you’re buying for an adult who wants to track sleep quality (not just duration) – or possibly for a child with a chronic illness who needs sleep monitoring – this could be a great feature. I asked Claude AI to name the differences between my Series 5 watch and the latest models, and it said, among other things: “The Series 11 has display glass that’s 2x more scratch-resistant than previous models.” (That’s great for athletes or clumsy people like me. 😁) Apple doesn’t run big sales on its gadgets, so there’s usually no advantage to buying on Apple’s website. But if you want a list of all the features, visit Apple.com.
- WHOOP Life 5.0/MG Activity Tracker: Screenless design with 24/7 monitoring for heart rate, sleep, blood oxygen, menstrual cycle, and pace of aging. Impressive 14 days of battery life with wireless charging. Requires 12-month membership.
Virtual reality headsets
Best overall
- Meta Quest 3: The gold standard for VR with pancake lenses for gorgeous picture quality, works as both standalone and PC VR headset, sits closer to face for comfort, and has the best software platform and game library.
- Meta Quest 3S: Affordable entry point with nearly identical specs to Quest 3 but with Quest 2-style optics. Still offers excellent value and access to Meta’s full VR ecosystem. The note on this model states, “33 percent more memory.”
For PlayStation owners
- PlayStation VR2: Best for AAA gaming experiences with wide viewing angle, vivid OLED display, exceptional controller haptics, and impressive tracking. Now connects directly to SteamVR for PC gaming, too.
VR headset accessories (Meta Quest 3/3S/2)
In this category, I’m not linking to one specific VR accessory because the options change constantly. New straps, cases, and lens protectors show up every week, and older versions disappear just as fast. Your best bet is to search the exact terms I’ve listed so you can grab the most current, compatible accessory for the model you’re buying for.
This section includes searches for the phrases in quotation marks, further filtered by “included components.” Example: “Quest 3 elite head strap,” followed by the more narrow filter “headstrap.”
Elite-style comfort strap (with or without battery)
A major upgrade for anyone who plays more than 10 minutes at a time. These straps redistribute the weight so the headset sits comfortably instead of squishing your face, and the battery-back models double your playtime.
Search for:
- “Quest 3 elite head strap” (drill down to “headstrap”)
- “Quest 3 battery head strap” (I further narrowed the results to “headstrap”)
- “Quest 2 elite strap” (still very popular, and I further narrowed the results to “headstrap”)
VR lens protectors/lens covers
Inexpensive and practical, these items keep lenses from getting scratched when traveling or when somebody (cough kids) tosses the headset onto a surface they swear is clean. Also great for dust.
The search can be narrowed by several filters, including “face cover” and “glasses spacer.” Kits that include several components are also available in these search results.
Search for:
Hard-shell carrying case
Perfect for the gamer who takes his headset everywhere: sleepovers, coffee shops, family gatherings, youth group, you name it. A good case keeps the headset, controllers, strap, and cables safe in one place.
Search for:
Controller grip covers
Silicone or TPU grips make controllers easier to hang onto and less likely to fly across the living room during Beat Saber “enthusiasm.” Also keeps sweat and fingerprints off the hardware.
Search for:
VR face cushions/facepad replacements
A fresh face cushion changes everything: comfort, hygiene, sweat absorption, light blocking, the whole experience. Great for multiuser households or anyone who uses VR for fitness.
Search for:
Rechargeable battery dock or charging stand
A clean way to store the headset and keep everything charged. Great for people who forget to plug things in (so … most of us).
Search for:
VR cable management system (if they use PCVR)
Little ceiling-mounted retractable pulleys or a desktop arm keep the link cable out of the way and stop it from tangling during movement. Feels tiny but makes a big difference. These aren’t just for VR use, either; if you need something for your home or office, take a peek.

Customizable mechanical keyboards
Budget options
- Akko MOD007B: A solid pick for anyone who wants a premium typing experience without the premium price tag. It features smooth magnetic switches that give you fast, consistent keystrokes and adjustable actuation – meaning you can fine-tune how sensitive each key feels. The gasket-mounted aluminum case adds a soft, bouncy typing feel, and the keyboard’s 75 percent layout includes arrow keys and a function row in a compact footprint. With Bluetooth 5.0, 2.4GHz wireless, and USB-C connectivity, per-key customization through Akko’s software, and that satisfyingly deep “thock,” this is a great value for tech lovers who appreciate both aesthetics and performance. With gamepad mode, the keyboard can be switched between a joystick for racing games and a regular keyboard for typing.
- Epomaker TH99: A feature-packed mechanical keyboard for anyone who wants lots of functionality in a compact footprint. The TH99 uses a gasket-mounted design with multiple sound-dampening layers, giving each keystroke a soft, smooth, “thocky” feel. Its compact layout includes a number pad and function keys, so it’s great for productivity and gaming. With hot-swappable switches, Bluetooth, 2.4GHz, and USB-C connectivity, and an 8000mAh battery, it’s versatile enough to use with your computer, tablet, or phone. The RGB lighting, sturdy build, and customizable software make it a strong value pick for someone who wants a polished, modern keyboard without paying premium prices.
- MonsGeek M1W V3 HE: An aluminum case at a budget-friendly price – rare! This is a fast, modern mechanical keyboard built for gamers who want speed and precision. It uses magnetic switches and supports “rapid trigger” technology for lightning-quick repeated actions – a big deal for competitive players. With Bluetooth, 2.4GHz wireless, and USB-C connectivity, on-board memory for saving custom settings, and a large 6000mAh battery, it’s a powerful, flexible keyboard that feels far more advanced than its price suggests.
Premium options
- Keychron Q10 Max: A premium ergonomic mechanical keyboard with a curved, split-key layout that helps reduce wrist and forearm strain during long typing sessions. Its full aluminum body and double-gasket design give it a soft, satisfying typing feel, and it includes hot-swappable switches so you can customize it without soldering. With Bluetooth, 2.4GHz, and USB-C connectivity, plus full QMK/VIA support for remapping keys and macros, the Q10 Max is a powerful choice for anyone who wants comfort, flexibility, and high-end build quality in one keyboard.
- NuPhy Air75 V3: A slim, portable mechanical keyboard with a comfortable gasket-mounted design that gives each keystroke a smooth, quiet feel. Its low-profile frame makes it easy to carry, and the 75 percent layout keeps your desk tidy while still giving you essential keys. With Bluetooth, 2.4GHz, and USB-C connectivity, plus the ability to switch between multiple devices, it’s great for anyone who works across different screens. Customizable knobs, PBT keycaps, and NuPhy’s software add plenty of flexibility, while the long-lasting battery keeps you typing in wireless mode for hours.
Acts of service
Sometimes the best gift isn’t something you can wrap but an act of service that will make life easier for someone who isn’t as tech-savvy:
Tech setup and troubleshooting
- Set up a new device: Help someone set up a new computer, tablet, or smartphone: Install apps, set up email, and sync data.
- Organize digital files: Clean up their computer or smartphone, organize files and photos, and back everything up to cloud storage.
- Wi-Fi optimization: Optimize their network with a strong password, troubleshoot slow speeds, and set up mesh networks for better coverage.
App overhaul and training
- App organization: Organize their smartphone by downloading useful apps and removing ones they don’t need.
- Tech training session: Teach them how to use new software or apps, from photo editing to productivity tools.
Data protection and cybersecurity
- Password management setup: Set up a password manager such as LastPass or 1Password and teach them how to use it.
- Security check-up: Perform a tech audit to ensure that latest software updates, antivirus protection, and backup plans are in place.
Virtual tech support
- Emergency hotline: Make yourself available for troubleshooting problems via phone or video call.
- Remote assistance: Offer remote access support to help with software installation and setup.
Digital decluttering
- Email cleanup: Help clean up inboxes, organize folders, unsubscribe from newsletters, and set up filters.
- Spam management: Set up email filters and unsubscribe from unwanted email lists.
Tech training for family
- Video call setup: Set up FaceTime, Zoom, or Skype for family members, and teach them how to make video calls.
- Personalized tutorials: Give tech tutorials focusing on apps and features they’ll actually use.
Bonus tech gift ideas
- CanaKit Raspberry Pi 5 Starter Kit PRO: A fun DIY project for exploring coding, robotics, and more. I asked Claude AI for a fuller explanation of Raspberry Pi, and Claude said it’s “a small, affordable single-board computer about the size of a credit card. It’s a complete working computer with a processor, memory, and ports – but at a fraction of the cost of a traditional computer. They’re extremely popular with tech enthusiasts, hobbyists, students, and makers. A Raspberry Pi Kit is essentially a bundle that includes the Raspberry Pi board plus accessories to get you started. Depending on the kit, you might get things like a power supply, case, SD card (which acts as the storage/hard drive), cables, cooling fans, or even LEDs and sensors for projects.” The CanaKit brand is known for reliable, well-assembled kits.
- Tech organizer: Tech organizers are a smart way to keep cables, chargers, earbuds, and tiny tech accessories from disappearing into the depths of backpacks, tote bags, and couch cushions. Choose a compact everyday pouch under $25, or upgrade to a premium organizer with structured compartments for travel or serious gadget users. Either way, your tech-loving friend will appreciate the sanity it brings. (Stay tuned: I’m working on getting you links to specific recommendations.)
Did I overlook anything important? If you have a tech need that I didn’t include under Acts of Service, be sure to leave a comment to let me know so I can include it.
