Privacy Policy

Effective date/last updated: July 17, 2025 (updated the Analytics section)

This is the boring legal stuff that outlines how we collect visitors’ data, what we do with it and what you can do about it; and it keeps our butts in compliance with all. those. regulations. Plus, it’s just the polite thing to do.

By the way, we’re not into spam, so you don’t have to worry about that.

Who we are

The website creator and owner is Suzy Taylor Oakley (that’s me, but throughout this legal document I’ll refer to me and my as “we” and “our.” It’s kinda weird, but so am I. Just go with it.)

Our website address is https://ChristmasGiving.com.

2. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act

This website and any products and services offered herein are not intended for people under age 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 13 We prohibit children under 13 from using all interactive portions of this website, including leaving comments, filling out forms, or otherwise submitting information. If we learn we have any information or content from anyone younger than 13, we will delete that information.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

When visitors leave comments on this site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help detect and eliminate spam.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using that service. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

MEDIA

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

CONTACT FORMS

To assist with sending you requested information, we use MailerLite to collect and store your email address. MailerLite outlines its use of your personal data and anonymized data here. You may opt out of the collection of your data by unsubscribing (we will remove your data) and contacting ConvertKit using the instructions on its privacy page.

COOKIES

Cookies are small text files used to store small pieces of information. They are stored on your device when the website is loaded on your browser. These cookies help us make the website function properly, make it more secure, provide better user experience, and understand how the website performs and to analyze what works and where it needs improvement.

The third-party cookies used on our website are mainly for understanding how the website performs and how you interact with our website, keeping our services secure, providing you with a better and improved user experience, and helping speed up your future interactions with our website.

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we also will set up several cookies to save your log-in information and your screen display choices. Log-in cookies last for two days, and screen-options cookies last a year. If you select “Remember Me,” your log-in will persist for two weeks.

If you log out of your account, the log-in cookies will be removed.

EMBEDDED CONTENT FROM OTHER WEBSITES

Blog posts on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.).

Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

ANALYTICS

Many websites use Google Analytics to gather (way too much) info on site visitors. We find Google Analytics – heck, Google in general – to be too invasive and creepy. We don’t like it when other websites gather our personal info to track us, so we don’t do it to our visitors.

Instead, we use Burst Statistics – a cookie-less, privacy-first analytics tool that:

  • Tracks only anonymous metrics (e.g., page views, referrers, time on page).
  • Uses no cookies or personal data.

Whom we share your data with

In a nutshell: We will never sell, rent or lease your personal data to a third party. We think that is icky. We don’t want other sites using our personal data in that way, so we won’t do it to you. Pinky swear.

But sometimes we use service providers and others who help with our business operations and assist in the delivery of our products and services. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Application development, site hosting, maintenance, data analysis, infrastructure provision, IT services, customer service, email delivery services, payment processing, marketing, analytics and enforcement of our Terms of Use and other agreements.
  • Other users of the site to identify you to anyone to whom you send messages or make comments through the services.
  • People or entities with whom you consent to have your personal data shared.
  • Third parties in order to prevent damage to our property (tangible and intangible), for safety reasons or to collect amounts owed to us.
  • Merchants and payment processors.
  • Third parties as we believe necessary or appropriate, in any manner permitted under applicable law, including laws outside your country of residence to:
  • Comply with legal process.
  • Respond to requests from public and government authorities, including public and government authorities outside your country of residence.
  • Enforce our Terms of Use and other agreements.
  • Protect our operations.
  • Protect our rights, privacy, safety or property and/or that of our affiliates, you, or others.
  • Allow us to pursue available remedies or limit the damages that we may sustain.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you.

This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. To contact us, click here or email suzy@christmasgiving.com.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam-detection service. You can find the privacy policy of Antispam Bee (our current spam-detection service) by visiting GitHub.

Business Transfers

If we or our assets are acquired, we would include data, including your personal information, among the assets transferred to any parties who acquire us. You acknowledge that such transfers may occur and that any parties that acquire us may, to the extent permitted by applicable law, continue to use your personal information according to this policy, which they will be required to assume, as it is the basis for any ownership or use rights we have over such information.

HOW WE PROTECT YOUR DATA

We use reasonable and appropriate physical, electronic, and administrative safeguards to protect personal data from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction, taking into account the nature of the personal data and risks involved in processing that information.
